QUESTION: I have seen and heard the news reports about the
new, deadly influenza (flu) problem with dogs. Is this an epidemic? Should I worry. What should I do?
ANSWER:

from the
doctor's desk

The news media has a tendency
to sensationalize everything. There is no epidemic in our area. However this infection IS a new disease for dogs, so they have no natural immunity. The signs are a cough, fever and no energy. The
condition can lead to pneumonia in sensitive individuals. If your pet develops signs of illness then make arrangements for a doctor's exam. There is currently no vaccination available.
